A Q&A with Chetan
Could you describe a ‘typical day in the office?’ What does your job involve?
As a TRESemmé stylist no two days are ever the same. One day I might be styling a big fashion event like New Zealand Fashion Festival, and the next day I could be in the salon giving a lucky winner a TRESemmé hair make-over.
It must be exciting to be part of the New Zealand Fashion Festival. What will you be contributing towards the big event?
TRESemmé will have a team of eight stylists backstage getting the models runway ready every night, which I will be leading. There will also be a team giving attendees a hair make-over before shows, out the front of the venue, because TRESemmé wants everybody at New Zealand Fashion Festival to look runway-ready!
I’ll also be giving a masterclass seminar on how to re-create the runway looks from New Zealand Fashion Festival at home using TRESemmé products. I’ll be sharing some of my top styling tips and pointers on how to maintain healthy locks, because everyone deserves to have salon chair-worthy hair.
How did you land your job?
I won my role as a TRESemmé hair stylist at last year’s New Zealand Fashion Festival. It was an intense competition with eight professional hair stylists competing for the title, and I had to work hard to prove I deserved it. It’s by far the best thing I’ve done in my career and I haven’t looked back since.
What do you enjoy most about working in the beauty industry?
The variety of work and meeting new people every day is a great experience, but the best part is knowing that you’ve helped someone to look their very best, when they step out of the chair.
TRESemmé is a trusted brand. Can you share any tips and tricks for keeping your hair in immaculate condition?
During summer, hair can lose its shine and moisture due to sun exposure. I recommend the following TRESemmé products to balance the moisture level of hair while removing impurities, resulting in clean, healthy and shiny hair.
TRESemmé Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner: Delivers optimised hydration to restore vibrancy and shine to dry, damaged hair.
TRESemmé Deep Cleansing Shampoo and Conditioner: Contains clarifying formula for removing build up and impurities. Great for summer as a lot of people swim and this can help remove chlorine and salt from hair, keeping it clean and healthy.
Can you predict any big hair trends for 2012?
Big hair is back! Lots of volume and wavy curls for 2012 – think Cheryl Cole and banish the straightener.
Do you have any advice for young people wanting to get into the industry?
Get professional training first off, surround yourself with experienced professionals and make it your business to learn everything you can from them – then put your hand up for any opportunities that come your way.
CIDER SUNDAY FOR CIDER LOVERS!
Making fruit more useful since 1947, Old Mout (rhymes with fruit) Cider makes cider for cider lovers. Located in Nelson, our independent cidery and specialist cider makers use local sun-ripened fruit to make Australasia’s most awarded cider. It’s also been recognised as one of the country’s fastest growing brands – making the coveted 2011 Deloitte Fast 50 list.
Old Mout Cider products are available throughout New Zealand with pride of place in the beverage section of major supermarkets and liquor stores. Whether you prefer a more traditional drop – Classic Apple, Scrumpy and Pear Scrumpy, or our unique fruitier options – Boysencider, Feijoa & Cider and our brand spanking new Cranberry & Cider – we put taste first. We think it’s pretty good!
For one day only, Garage Sale fashion hunters can play a few rounds of old school games, and win prizes – all whilst enjoying a cold Old Mout Cider.
Just outside Shed 10, you’ll see the Old Mout Cider chill zone. This is the outdoor haven where cider friends and fans can relax and be entertained, while their loved ones shop – or somewhere to stop off when you need a shopping hiatus.
The entry fee to the Garage Sale is only $5 on the door! And we’re there all day.

What are you looking forward to most at this year’s Fashion Festival?
Seeing all this season’s collections in one hit, so to speak, and knowing I can go straight out the next day and buy the things I love!
Can you tell us a bit more about the Viva Live Seminar you will be hosting?
Just like the Viva magazine you find in your Wednesday Herald newspaper, it’s going to be informative, fun and inspiring. Our special guest is Karen Walker who will tell us all about the glamour – and grit – of showing at New York Fashion Week. We have television personality and Viva eating out editor Nici Wickes celebrating how food – like fashion – goes through different trends. Plus, our fashion editor Ana Macdonald is going to guide you through the top looks for this season. And there will be lots of great prizes to be won and goody bags full of treats.
What trends should viewers watch out for in 2012?
Colour, patterns, textures, Sixties influences, flattering silhouettes… Look in next week’s Viva and come along to our Viva Live Seminar to find out more!
What’s your best style advice to pass on?
Shoulders back! That’s what my mother was always telling me as I was growing up. And it’s so true. Everything looks so much better when you’re standing tall and with confidence.
What’s the most cherished item in your wardrobe?
A pair of American Indian turquoise earrings given to me by a beautiful warrior woman friend who died of breast cancer.
Who are some of your style heroes?
Stella McCartney, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett; all strong, feminine women who are comfortable in their own skin – and what they wear!
Lace trim briefs (as shown on the front of this card) are available in sizes 12, 14, 16, 18, 20
